Soon the monumental Bonn Opera/Theatre at the border of river Rhine near Kennedybrücke will be renovated fully and retrofitted for new technology (estimatedd costs of the works: 18 million Euro). However, it is not yet claryfied how this will be done. The less cost-effective solution would be to complete the renovation works at once. In this case the opera-theatre would necessarily have to close its doors for a long period of time. To be able to continue limited business alternative locations for performances, e.g. Beethovenhalle or a chapiteau with catering service, must be found. In my opnion, the best solution, however, would be to rent the vacant Metropol Theater at Marktplatz.
Note: As I learned lease rental charges for a chapiteau for 800 visitors with entrance, cloakroom and catering service are estimated to be at least 1 million Euro. Why not investigate this money to save the traditional and chic Metropol Theater from demolition?
