City Views Bonn – Day of the open Monument (Heritage Day)

Every year, on the second Sunday of September, Bonn opens the doors of monuments, buildings and gardens that are usually closed to the public. „The day of the open Monument“, guided or individual tours offer glimpses behind the scenes that are only possible that special day.

This year more than 30 objects could be visited, for example the Old Cemetery, where many celebrities, e.g. componist Robert Schumann, are interred; the former gardens of monastery St. Remigius, an oasis of peace in the center of the city; Castle Endenich, an ancient moated castle established in the 12-13th century; L’école de Gaulle-Adenauer, an old village school in Bad Godesberg-Mehlem; Commend Muffendorf, founded in 1254 by the Teutonic Knights, lastly residence of the Belgian ambassador and Abbey Church St. Johan and Baptist (Stiftskirche) at Kölnstrasse/Stiftsplatz, a neo-Gothic building, built in 1886 by architect Heinrich Wiethase, decorated with beautiful windows designed by Hubert Berke.
