Next years’s Bundesgartenschau (BUGA), a gigantic flower and garden show will take place from April 15 – October 16 in Koblenz. For this occasion a new ropeway is constructed across the river Rhine. It will connect Koblenz at the left bank of the Rhine with Ehrenbreitstein, a hill fortresss on the other side, 118 metres above the river.
The new 890m long 3S or tricable ropeway has 18 enclosed cabins which can accomodate up to 35 passengers each and carry 7600 persons per hour.
The aereal ropeway offers a magnificient view of Koblenz and the confluence of Rhine and Moselle at Deutsches Eck, monument of emperor Wilhelm I (especially at noon). The Koblenz passenger cable car line – designed by Werner Sobek Engineering & Design and built by Doppelmayr/Garaventa Group – is currently the world’s most modern aereal ropeway and will undoubtedly be one of the most popular attractions of BUGA 2011.
