The artists‘ quarter in Bonn is situated in the old part of the city, close to the giant administrative center of the city at the Berliner Platz and the Old Cemetary. The quarter is bounded by the Bornheimer Strasse, Hochstaden-Ring/Kaiser-Karl Ring, Römerstrasse and Oxfordstrasse. The most popular streets are Alte Heerstrasse, Breite Strasse, Dorotheenstrasse, Im Krausfeld, Maxstrasse and Wolfstrasse.
With its narrow roads and pictureque old style houses the quarter is a popular place to live. It has a very multicultural and collegiate touch. With lots of small shops, little boutiques, 2nd hand shops, coffee houses, doner kebab stands, etc. it is a good place to shop, to relax a bit or just stroll around. At night it is a very frequented amusement quarter with numerous pubs and restaurants that ask for a visit.
The old part of the city is also an arts and culture quarter. Besides well known artistic places – as for example the Frauenmuseum, Künstler-Forum, Kunstverein, Kult 41 and August Macke Haus – many artists‘ studios settled here, several of them however are hosted in shelters, depots and unoccupied houses in backyards, and are only known to insiders.
Quite a few of the more than 30 artists of all schools that are working in the old part of the city are: Jürgen Middelmann, painter, Wolfstrasse, 10; Jens Mohr, sculpturist; Heerstrasse 114; Ina Zeuch, painter/photographer, Hochstadenring 49a; Sabine Heinen, objects and installations, Kult 41/Hochstadenring 41 and the famous foundress of the Frauenmuseum, Marianne Pitzen, installations and paper figures, Frauenmuseum/Im Krausfeld 10.
